The parish of Saint John the Baptist
                                        Harrat Jdeadeh-Mejdlaya

The inhabitants of Mejdlaya called the new building of the late Francis al Zekra "Harat Jdeadeh" (the new quarter) during the First World War, when the new road between Al Kobbeh and Zgharta was built.
Other inhabitants of Mejdlaya like the families: Zeydan and Kertbany moved there, and in the beginning they practiced their religious activities in the church of Al Saydeh.
For winter days, the late Francis al Zekra offered a piece of land, on the main road, where he built a church for the inhabitants of his quarter. He, then, began to encourage the inhabitants oh Baslookit to become his neighbors during winter. Thus, Germanos Abdallah, Nakhl Antoon, Yoossef Adam, Gerges Sakr and his brothers, and Sarkis Zaїter did so.
After WWII, all the inhabitants of Baslookit began to pass their winter in Harat Jdeadeh, and the parish of Harat Jdeadeh became separated from the parish of Al Saydeh in Mejdlaya. After the incidents of 1958, many people from Dannieh (Syr, Mrah Sreij and others) came to live in Harat Jdeadeh.

During these incidents, the church was expended under the surveillance of the late Father Nehmet-Allah Saliba. Many people came from Zgharta and the neighborhood to inhabit Harat Jdeadeh.
Today, under the supervision of Father Romanos Sassin, the church has been restored to contain more than 800 persons and the renovation is still continuing.
During this period, and based on the demand of Father Antoon Saad, the servant of the parish of Baslookit, the Archbishop Antoon Abed released a decree that fixed the limits of the parish of St John the Baptist as the house of the Halbi family from the Westside of the main road and the Carmaliah crossroads from the eastside of the main road. Since then, no decree that modifies this had been released.
